Our Books

We are a fledgling micropublisher of dark fiction, established in June of 2008 by Gary Whitten. While we plan to release print copies for some titles, extremely low print sales have forced us to move to the more profitable e-book market. Over the course of the last year, Aphotic Thought Press has released ten titles through many of the major e-book vendors, and we've found e-book readers to be more likely to to pick new fiction from unfamiliar writers.

While we would like to offer more print titles, the fact is, every print release is almost gauranteed to be a financial flop. On the other hand, every single title we've released as an e-book has generated regular sales. While being in print may bring more prestige, prestige doesn't pay the editor's fees. Prestige also doesn't interest reviewers, who have pretty much ignored the review copies we mailed out last year.

Aphotic Thought Press was never meant to be a single author house, and at long last, we've begun negotiations with other writers to release their titles under the ATP imprint. (By invitation only for now.) We are still closed to submissions for the time being, but if our inital releases with these new authors works out, we will open for a brief window. We apologize for the long delays in getting submissions open, but feel it's vital to sort these details out instead of lousing up relationships with writers over trivial snags.

Despite a rocky year of low sales and cancelled jobs, production has begun on the next Wendy Stoffel novel, A Perfectly Empty Vessel. Additionally, editor Lisa Boucher has turned in The Lesser of Two Evils, and we expect to send her Trail of Madness soon.
