Welcome to Aphotic Thought Press

Mission
Who we are
Guidelines

We are a fledgling micropublisher of dark fiction, established in June of 2008 by Gary Whitten. Our first title, was Redemption Lost, released in November of 2008. We have plans to release updated editions of the first two books, but both projects had to be suspended in 2009 to cover other financial and medical obligations. Both books should be rereleased under the ATP imprint in 2010. We have many plans for 2010, but most will need to stay under wraps until we're sure of every little detail.

Aphotic Thought is not meant to be a single author showcase, and once we've worked the bugs and details of financing out, we will first invite a few authors to join us. If those initial releases work out for our new authors, then we will open to submissions. Our main priority is to be a paying publisher, not an "author mill." Because we want to make sure every detail is just right, opening submissions may be delayed indefinitely until we are certain we can pay everyone; our writers, our artists, and our editor.

Also, don't count on seeing anything resembling a release schedule. We will release titles when they are ready, and there will be no books released too soon to beat some impending deadline. Far too many micro-publishers are rushing books out, only to make a mess for themselves to fix immediately thereafter. This taints the relationships between authors and the companies, the publishers and their readers, and the writers with their readers. At ATP, we would rather that a book was released "late" but with all the details right to please our writers and our readers.

At this time, we are not accepting submissions. However, we are interested in looking over portfolios from artists and photographers interested in taking commissions for future cover projects.

Despite a rocky year of low sales and cancelled jobs, production has begun on the next Wendy Stoffel novel, A Perfectly Empty Vessel. Additionally, editor Lisa Boucher has turned in The Lesser of Two Evils, and we expect to send her Trail of Madness soon.
